Story
ETERNAL DERBY
Rajko i Bobek.jpg
Mitic and Bobek
Sport rivalry is the purest kind of contest, which is present in all aspects our lives. In football, as the most popular sport, this rivalry is especially rendered. If we are talking about teams from the same city the affair gets an entirely new dimension. If there are such two teams in a metropolitan city they inevitably become rivals and each encounter turns into the event of the day – derby...

City duels around the world, starting with Milan, Rome, Madrid, Glasgow, Lisbon, Liverpool, London, Istanbul, Rio or Buenos Aires…, celebrate the matches between Milan and Inter, Roma and Lacio, Real and Atletico, Celtic and Rangers, Benfika and Sporting, Liverpool and Everton, Arsenal and Tottenham, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, Flamingo and Botafoga, River Plate and Boca Juniors… The eternal Derby between Red Star and Partizan stands shoulder to shoulder with these elite.

There are things and events that cannot be erased by time. Some of them grow out of their time and become tradition. In a country of great changes, such as ours, football matches between Red Star and Partizan are one of the highlighting traditions not only in sports.

There is no doubt that the rivalry between these two clubs is one of the most beautiful things that developed through football in this region. It all began on the 5th of January 1947. when the first match between the two Belgrade clubs was held. Red Star came out victorious winning 4:3 as the visiting team and started an amazing winner’s story that is current until today. As the biggest rival, Partizan, with a twist of faith, was literarily a witness of Red Star’s growing to become a great football team.

The first trophy in the history of the club was attained exactly with a win over the eternal rival in a Marshal Tito Cup’s final 1948. It happened on 29th of November and Red Star won 3:0 thanks to goals from Vukosavljevic (2) and Mitic.

The fact that Red Star has won their first championship title 1951. by wining against Partizan in the last premiership round is nothing less significant – on the opponents ground just the same. This was on 4th of November and Red Star celebrated 2:0, just enough to overtake Dinamo Zagreb in a tight finish to the championship title race.

The rest is history. In the meantime many pages in the book of Red Star triumphs have been written with numerous trophies and acknowledgements. The rivalry with Partizan became more than just a game. It is measured on all fields and everything stands in favour of our club. Not only the ratio of wins and losses in mutual matches but also the greater number of titles, Cups and premiership points won. Even the 100th “eternal derby” was taken by our club.
